We Love Your Kids Almost as Much as You Do

Miss Katie

Miss Katie is the teacher for our private Kindergarten on Solano Avenue. She is Ray and Mary Welch's daughter, and she has been helping out at Children's Cottage since she was 12 years old. Katie graduated from UC Santa Cruz and then went on to San Fransico State where she received her teaching credential for elementary school. She taught first grade at Robert Louis Stevenson elementary school with a diverse class of students, many who had English as a second language. Katie is excited about the opportunity to bring out the best in her students. Using the kindergarten standards for the state of California, her curriculumn covers LANGUAGE ARTS- Reading, Writing, Written and Oral English Language Conventions, as well as Listening and Speaking. MATH will address Number Sense, Algebra and Functions, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics, Data Analysis and Probability. SOCIAL STUDIES will cover Learning and Working Now and Long Ago; SCIENCE will explore Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Investigation & Experimentation.

Katie's class is involved, personal, fun, and the educational experience every kindergartener should have.

Miss Susana

A patient and understanding teacher of our youngest children, Miss Susana completed a Licentiate in Pre-School Education and two years towards a Master in Pedagogy in Mexico. This education is equivalent to 2 years of post-baccalaureate education in the same field completed at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.

Miss Ruann

Miss Ruann is the Butterlies teacher for children who will be starting kindergarten next year. She has a BS degree and is Montessori trained. Her emphasis is getting them academically and socially ready for elementary school. Her favorite book as a child was Green Eggs and Ham. Ruann's favorite thing about teaching at Children's Cottage is watching the kids eyes light up when they have accomplished something new.

Miss Yasmin

Miss Yasmin is the Site Director for our school on Lincoln Avenue for infants through 6 years. She speaks fluent Spanish and English, and knows sign language as well. Yasmin has a lot of energy and keeps the school running very well. She is very artistic and loves decorating the facility. We are very happy to have this wonderful teacher at our Lincoln Avenue school.

Miss Pilar

Miss Pilar is the Ladybugs teacher and has a BS degree in Early Childhood Education from Mexico with updated courses from Sonoma State. She is still taking classes at Napa Valley College to keep updated on the lastest information available on child development. Miss Pilar has 14 years experience working with children from 2 yrs to 18 yrs old. Being the mother of her own 4 children has helped her empathize with both parents and children. She likes to be a respectful role model for the children and offer them age appropriate learning and playful experiences to improve their developmental skills. She tries to be flexible, adaptable, and willing to change the class routine if the children demand or need something new to keep their experiences frresh. She loves working for Mary and Ray because they are very respectful to the teahcers and to the children. Miss Pilar hopes that the parents find her a trustworthy friend and someone who loves and cares for their treasure.
