
Miss Katie
Miss Katie is the teacher for our private Kindergarten
on Solano Avenue. She is Ray and Mary Welch's daughter,
and she has been helping out at Children's Cottage
since she was 12 years old. Katie graduated from UC
Santa Cruz and then went on to San Fransico State
where she received her teaching credential for elementary
school. She taught first grade at Robert Louis Stevenson
elementary school with a diverse class of students,
many who had English as a second language. Katie is
excited about the opportunity to bring out the best
in her students. Using the kindergarten standards
for the state of California, her curriculumn covers
LANGUAGE ARTS- Reading, Writing, Written and Oral
English Language Conventions, as well as Listening
and Speaking. MATH will address Number Sense, Algebra
and Functions, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics,
Data Analysis and Probability. SOCIAL STUDIES will
cover Learning and Working Now and Long Ago; SCIENCE
will explore Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth
Sciences, and Investigation & Experimentation.
Katie's class is involved, personal, fun, and the
educational experience every kindergartener should
have.

Miss Susana
A patient and understanding teacher of our youngest
children, Miss Susana completed a Licentiate in Pre-School
Education and two years towards a Master in Pedagogy
in Mexico. This education is equivalent to 2 years
of post-baccalaureate education in the same field
completed at a regionally accredited college or university
in the United States.

Miss Ruann
Miss Ruann is the Butterlies teacher for children
who will be starting kindergarten next year. She has
a BS degree and is Montessori trained. Her emphasis
is getting them academically and socially ready for
elementary school. Her favorite book as a child was
Green Eggs and Ham. Ruann's favorite thing about teaching
at Children's Cottage is watching the kids eyes light
up when they have accomplished something new.

Miss Yasmin

Miss Yasmin is the Site Director for our school on
Lincoln Avenue for infants through 6 years. She speaks
fluent Spanish and English, and knows sign language
as well. Yasmin has a lot of energy and keeps the
school running very well. She is very artistic and
loves decorating the facility. We are very happy to
have this wonderful teacher at our Lincoln Avenue
school.

Miss Pilar
Miss Pilar is the Ladybugs teacher and has a BS degree
in Early Childhood Education from Mexico with updated
courses from Sonoma State. She is still taking classes
at Napa Valley College to keep updated on the lastest
information available on child development. Miss Pilar
has 14 years experience working with children from
2 yrs to 18 yrs old. Being the mother of her own 4
children has helped her empathize with both parents
and children. She likes to be a respectful role model
for the children and offer them age appropriate learning
and playful experiences to improve their developmental
skills. She tries to be flexible, adaptable, and willing
to change the class routine if the children demand
or need something new to keep their experiences frresh.
She loves working for Mary and Ray because they are
very respectful to the teahcers and to the children.
Miss Pilar hopes that the parents find her a trustworthy
friend and someone who loves and cares for their treasure.
